Description

The Church of San Pietro in the hamlet of Popoli, at the start of the path to Ocricchio, is immersed in an Arcadian setting, with the façade of the church facing the town.

The small building with an apse has a gabled façade; from here comes a small 15th/16th-century bell. After the 1979 earthquake it was restored and stripped of its interior furnishings. The 16th-century tile on the door indicates that it was under the Vatican Chapter. From the side windows one glimpses the small niche of the altar that once held the cippus of Hercules and a fresco covered by plaster, attributable to Giovanbattista di Giovannofrio, of the Madonna and Child and St. Peter (late 15th century).
